Assignment 1: The Passion of Joan of Arc

  1. Your second photo used the studio light of the stage along with the auditorium lights to create shadows and dimensions that really give an interesting look to the photo. Also with the lighting, the people on the floor look extremely far away and "lower" than the stage which provides an authority of some sort. Also a diagonal angle instead of straight on makes the photo much more appealing.

The third photo is cute and is a great pic of campus life in the happier of moments.

  2. Each picture gets better: the first one lacks interest for me, the second one is a cool shot because of all the people and the lighting on the stage, and I love the third one because of the girls' smiles look like you caught them right in the middle of laughing.

  3. I like the candidness of the third photo. However, it's posed. If you could capture that honesty without a posed photo, that would be awesome.

  4. + i really like the lighting in the second photo. the orchestra seems to almost glow. and, afterall, they are what everyone is there for.
+ the top and bottom pictures show two sides to the event-- a serious side and a fun side.

    - dax looks a little blurred. i think you could also get a better angle of people enjoying the event rather than from the back.
    - i agree with aimee about the posed picture. i know it's difficult when people see a camera, however.

    nice work!

  5. I like your second picture a lot. The wide angle gives a good perspective to the viewer of the scale of the room, the amount of people present, and captures the mood of the event well. I agree that your third one feels posed, and your first could be shot with more people in the image (getting rid of the back wall) or perhaps some depth off field adjustments to bring the focus onto the people present in the image.

  6. First off, I love the third photo....maybe it's because my roommates are just lovely people.

Also, I do like the shot of the entire orchestra, but I'm not so sure that you got the best angle. And the first photo is my least favorite. Dax is blurred and the is not much interest captured in the shot. Keep trying different angles!
